Ralph Mctell

On Sunday Derek and I drove to Tewkesbury. The Abbey is a towering landmark in this lovely town, but I was looking forward to the evening as we were booked to see Ralph Mctell at The Roses Theatre.

We spent the afternoon walking around the various streets and by the river. The weather was chilly, but dry and at times, sunny so we were able to be outside for a few hours window shopping and having a cup of tea in The Bell hotel.

There are many winding streets and alleyways to explore such as the one below and the bells were ringing in the Abbey at 3pm, not sure if for a special occasion, maybe a Christening.

Then it was off to The Roses Theatre to see Ralph Mctell!

The doors opened at 6.30 and we were able to look at the merchandise on sale before going into the auditorium.

I bought a jute bag and had my photo taken with one of Ralph’s sons who was selling the merchandise. Billy was over from South Africa for a few weeks to help on Ralph’s current tour.

Many Oapschatters know that Ralph is one of my favourite singer songwriters and as usual, he did not disappoint

Nearly two hours without a break, Ralph entertained us with his anecdotes and tales relating to each song that he performed. As well as an accomplished guitarist - just how does he play these notes??, he is also a fine pianist and harmonica player.

The concert ended far too soon, but then many of us waited for him to come out into the foyer and chat. This was a highlight for me, not only did I get my photo taken with Ralph, but he also signed an Oapschat business card and said he remembered our interview and how much he enjoyed our chat!

Ralph and a happy Jan!

All in all, a great way to spend a few hours!

Tuesday was an exciting day too. An interview on BBC Hereford and Worcester with Malcolm Boyden! This link is available until 26/5/15. I start talking one hour eight minutes into the programme. Norman Turner also took part via a phone link and we all had time to chat about the website and the importance of it for people. Malcolm also asked me about the Independent Happy List and how it has been for the website since last June when I was one of the lucky Top100. I have nominated someone myself this year and I really hope it is a positive outcome for this person.

The rest of the week has been busy with writing new articles and contacting various companies.

Have a good week everyone and see you next Saturday!
